  Our last chance

We had been living together for 6 years and really wanted to start a family and we thought we ought to get married. We started trying 6 months before we got married. We thought it might take a bit of time to get pregnant anyway and even if it did happen who showed that much at 6 months anyway?

After 8 months I got a positive result! I started to bleed heavily 2 days later and the pregnancy was no more. We tried for a total of 7 and a half years. Encountering a lot of tests and fertility treatments along the way. Of course there were many tears. We tried Clomid, 3 IUIs with injectables and finally moved onto IVF. The first IVF cycle showed me to be a poor responder and after producing only 2 follicles the cycle was cancelled. I was crushed. I had been infertile, but now I felt sterile too.

We were convinced that we wouldn't have children of our own and began finding out about adoption. This was just prior to our last IVF attempt. The drug dose was increased and they kept a close eye on me. When they began to ask me to write down the sizes of my follicles I knew that was a positive sign. We had about 11 follicles in the end and my E2 was up to 4200. How could I not be hopeful? I worried about the egg collection ....... as I was unexplained maybe the answer would come now. Perhaps my eggs were of a bad quality or wouldn't fertilize. Maybe the follicles didn't have any eggs in them.

I woke to hearing the nurse tell me there were 10 eggs collected. YES!

I felt a little sad that only 4 of them fertilized the following day and I prayed hard that they would all make it through the night. They did, all 4 of them and the embryologist said they had gone on to become 4 celled, all grade 1 and were still showing signs of changing the last time she looked. Embryo transfer was easy enough. We transferred 3 embryos and had the last one frozen.

After feeling awful during the entire 2-week wait
my patience had paid off, we got our first beta back at 287.
