My journey actually began long before my husband and I got married and decided to have children. In 1995 my husband (boyfriend at that time) was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He was treated vigorously with chemotherapy and radiation. The chemo could have left him sterile. The doctor strongly advised him to do sperm banking. He did, but due to finances, only banked twice. Well, 3 years after finishing the chemo, DH is still sterile, now deemed permanently. We got married in September 6, 1997. I was fully aware of the problem we might have conceiving. In July 1998, we did our first IVF cycle. It ended at 6 weeks. We were crushed. The clinic was so sure that there would be no problems conceiving. I am 25 years old. DH is 32 years old. Our hopes were through the roof. My mother was ready to buy the crib! Once we recovered I was determined not to let IF defeat me. We did our second cycle in December. This went much smoother and I responded better to the medications. Transfer came and went, but I knew by the end of the first week, this cycle was a big negative also. The news was not as crushing as it had been last time. The good news is, that unlike our first cycle, we have 6 frozen embies, which are all stage 2 - good. I gained a lot of weight from the drugs and lack of motivation to do exercise. We decided to take 4-6 months off. I was trying to lose the weight - not so easy! It is now April 1999 and I think we will be ready for a May/June FET. I will keep you posted!
