I had a strong suspicion she would catch him in the act and started to think she would catch him as soon as she told him to "sweep the church" again (his kill place)---I thought, hmmm...she's been wanting to talk to him...that's where she's going to try to do it...at the wrong time. In the book series, she knows about his "habit" and closes a blind eye throughout it. Of course, a bunch of the characters are much different in the books vs. the series like Dokes (who stays alive) and his step-children who exhibit "dark passengers" as well, and he tries to find ways to calm/re-direct their impulses. Rita stays alive in the series, and they don't have a son together, so it's quite different. However, I agree with others. I think she will learn about Dexter and put the pieces together. She's a good investigator...I would be hard pressed to believe she'd believe some kind of cover-up story he'd come up with to pretend it was a one-time kill. If he tries that route, I think she will pretend to believe him, but she really won't and will try to forget about it and rationalize it. I think she will have a very mixed bag of emotions concerning him. I think she will still "love him" but won't bring herself to "go there" as he's too far damaged. I still think that somehow Dexter's adoptive father might really be his bio dad as his mom had an affair with him, and that sub-plot was kind of mulled over.
It makes sense that she's developed hyper emotions for Dexter...only guy who was really there for her all along. It would be beyond weird to be in that situation, but I'm not so sure it's as sexual as it is a very strong emotional (soulmate) connection she feels for him. I do wonder if Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter are re-kindling their romance (have wondered that since the first episode this season) because of the way they are working together this season. I was bummed to hear that they divorced right after his battle with Hodgekin's Lymphoma (didn't look too great with the "Lumen" character around while they broke up).
just finished it! holy wow- i didn't see that coming. I'm glad, though, because I think it will make for good conflict. I am creeped out by her love of him, but hopefully this will help equalize it.
