      MTHFR

If you know what these letters mean, then we need your help!

We are pulling together a resource for people who suspect or have learned that they have a MTHFR gene mutation. MTHFR mutations cause a host of problems from heart disease to certain cancers, but our focus is on the infertility aspect of the mutation. This is a problem that more and more women are being diagnosed with, yet there are few sites that have comprehensive information that can help those who need it most.

The MTHFR gene is located on the short (p) arm of chromosome 1 at position 36.3.

More precisely, the MTHFR gene is located from base pair 11,845,786 to base pair 11,866,159 on chromosome 1.

      Cytogenetic Location: 1p36.3
Molecular Location on chromosome 1: base pairs 11,845,786 to 11,866,159

We are looking for people who have been diagnosed with MTHFR who will come tell us their stories. We don't want this to be a solely "clinical" piece - we want to make sure that our stories are shared so that when women come looking for information, they'll really learn about it - from the inside out.

Will you please join our thread and tell us your story about MTHFR? Education is our mission and we need your help.

CLICK HERE to join our thread and share your story. (If you're not already a registered member, you can register quickly - then you'll be able to login and share. We're doing this so that your privacy is ensured. The information we post in our resource will use pseudonyms only.)

The following are some questions to get you thinking. You can use them to frame your MTHFR story, but also please feel free to write anything you want in any format you want to use.

      Questions to get you thinking:
      • Before you were tested for the MTHFR gene mutation, what was your infertility history? This would include diagnosis, testing, number of cycles and their outcomes, etc.
      • What happened to lead your doctor to test for a MTHFR gene mutation?
      • Where did you learn about MTHFR?
      • What was going on with your infertility treatment at the time?
      • What does it mean to have a MTHFR gene mutation? How do you feel about it? Has your life changed? How?
We know that when women look for information related to infertility, they want authoritative information and interaction with/stories from real women who have deal with the specific problems they're dealing with. We are going to weave your stories throughout the educational piece so we can give them exactly what they're looking for.

And maybe you'll get the answers to some of the questions you've had about MTHFR, too.

      Thanks so much.
