• UK Lottery Winner Now Able to Afford IVF

      From the Daily Mirror:

Most of the others in her winning syndicate are already planning to splash out on cars, holidays or new houses, but not Emma Allen.

Sky NewsThe only thing the 32-year-old – part of the Asda group which scooped £7million on Saturday’s lottery – really wants is a baby.

As the others in her16-strong syndicate chattered excitedly about spending their £430,000 share, Emma spoke quietly of her plans to fund more IVF.

Emma, who works in the Asda Extra department, had tears in her eyes as she told of her two unsuccessful courses of IVF on the NHS. She and her husband were facing a £5,000 bill for any further attempts.

She said yesterday: “This money means I can carry on with the IVF and have unlimited treatments. It will give me the family I have dreamed of. It’s a happy ending.”

(Others in the winning group have vastly different plans. According to an interview in Sky News, the woman who originally organized the group to start buying lottery tickets together said, "I have always wanted to go to Vegas and there are even rumours of one of the girls getting a bit of plastic surgery.")
