A study presented at the recent Annual Meeting of the
American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) gives an intriguing look at the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in obese women by gastric bypass surgery. PCOS is the leading cause of female infertility. Although the exact cause is still unknown, doctors have found that PCOS is associated with irregular menstrual cycles, acne, hormonal changes, hirsutism (excess hair growth), weight gain and infertility.
